Strengthen people trust on Public Health Service. With this aim, on 26th June F.I.A.S.O. (Italian Federation of Hospital and local Health Agencies) and the Parliament Commission for the protection and promotion of prevention right have organized a Meeting at Sala Capitolare of Senate of Italy.

“To Promote, supervise, manage and monitor Good Public Health” is the heading of the Meeting: on the base of the best practises described in the Libro Bianco, published by F.I.A.S.O, it aims to strengthen the public trust and to fight back misleading  information on healthcare malpractices.
The computerization and automation of oncologic path  at AOR Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona  has been one of the  four best practices selected for this convention.

General Manager, Dr Paolo Galassi has highlighted the public-private partnership between the Hospital and Loccioni humancare, born in 2006 with APOTECAchemo, the first fully automated system for the preparation of cytostatic drugs. The agreement includes the fulfilment of Lab@AOR, a laboratory of ideas, for the research, development and transfer of organization methods and innovative technological solutions to improve the hospital quality, efficiency and sustainability.

The project has been carried out installing the Robot System in the Hospital Pharmacy and then, standardizing and re-organizing  care paths in the wards in order to efficiently computerize the whole oncological work flow.

Thanks to APOTECA, onco-hematological path is totally safe, it avoids  any form of contamination: risks and high possibility of errors in manual dosing and preparation are eliminated. The health operators protected by technology have the possibility to devote more time and a greater tranquillity to be transmitted to the person being treated. The patient.
Best practices explanation has been preceded by the speeches of politics and health experts.
Sen. Antonio Tomassini, President of XII Health Commission has praised all Good Health Best Practices and has pointed out the continuous improvement of National Health Service in Italy, despite present challenging economic period.

In “Managing good health practices“ session, Fulvio Moirano, Age.Na.S. General Director has described the efficacy, efficiency and patient empowerment aspects of Programma Nazionale Valutazione Esiti (PNVE) that allows the health system stakeholders to obtain data and information on provided services.

Sen. Laura Bianconi has underlined the relevance of Libro Bianco as good Practices should be more widely spread and communicated: good news should be amplified so that good practices can be transferred and used elsewhere.

The speech of Sen. Ignazio Marino, President of Parliament Commission of National Health Service efficacy and efficiency has been much appreciated; he has focussed the attention on local service and prevention.

Dr. Giovanni Monchiero, President of F.I.A.S.O, has closed the meeting, emphasizing the fact that efficiency and quality of the service come from  acknowledgement
In addition, he has praised the relevance and quality of the work done to reach the national best practices that have mostly been obtained at very low costs or even free of cost
He has added that the excellence always arises from passion and goodwill of single person or small groups, being the main  and essential driving force of National Health Service.

From 14th to 15th June 2012 the fourth edition of APOTECACommunity took place. It is the meeting for the users of the System designed for the automated compound of chemotherapy drugs. The meeting goal is to discuss about APOTECA new uploads and to define future activities starting from suggestions and needs arisen from the Community itself.

The first day, after the introduction of the last System uploads, the clinicians invited had the chance to delve into their curiosity, to resolve doubts and discover the hardware and software news through demonstrative demos and expositive spaces fit out in humancare areas.

The next day, for about two hours, the Community discussed about necessities, needs and lacks noticed during the daily execution of the activities. Loccioni humancare team wrote down all the proposes and requests in order to organize next development steps.

After this first session, the attention was focused on communication to the patients), topic treated during the Community ON THE ROAD too. The human needs are the main focus of Loccioni humancare activity. The illness and its effects are often ignored and the same happens for the path care process and the importance of control and safety, necessary in this kind of therapy, from the prescription phase to the administration one.
The Community worked and planned the future around the table of its workshop. It figured out its own perfect patient communication through the bricolage using magazines, papers, scissors and glue.

The outcome was three very different moodboards but vey closed to the real patient needs.

Last March and April Loccioni humancare experts gave an advanced, practical and theoretical course at Pharmacy of Ancona Hospital to the clinicians in charge of automatic compound of cytotoxic drugs.

 The class had the target to deepen the most complex procedures related to the automatic compound, the operator safety and the quality of the therapy.

The course was structured in three phases:
- Practical part treating the most complex procedures of APOTECAchemo and simulating some cases of problem solving regarding to functionalities introduced with the recent up-dates;
- Theoretical part where the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and the international standards associated to the chemotherapic preparations were introduced. The focus was on the requirements introduced by the regulations, on their use in pharmaceutical and hospital sector, on the validation concept and as everything has been applied to the automated preparation.
- Theoretical part introducing the whole activity with its re-qualification results about the pharmacy ambient and APOTECAchemo system. This test phase has been done between September 2011 and March 2012 treating the chemical and microbiologic contamination in a methodic and exhaustive way.

The GMP is a group of rules which guarantees the quality of manufacturing (and storage) of pharmaceutical products in order to have an appropriated and predetermined quality necessary to use them respecting the intended use.

The Italian Pharmacopoeia XII Ed. treats the GMP normative for the requirements related to locals and devices used for the preparation of sterilized drugs in hospital pharmacies. The difference between hospital structures and pharmaceutical companies is very important as they have different contamination ambient classes and aseptic drugs production estimated by regulations.
The training day has been useful for the participants to clarify the different requirements necessary for the activity in the pharmaceutical and hospital sector.

Loccioni humancare considers the constant training in medical field as essential to maintain high the level of attention and to animate the discussion about the quality service dedicated to the patient and about the safety of clinicians involved into the whole oncologic workflow.

Loccioni Group received, thanks to APOTECA, the International LEONARDO DA VINCI Award, given by AIPA (Italian Association Industrial Designers) created to give value to Industrial Designers.
The award is assigned to all those who have brought a considerable contribution to the public interest through remarkable innovative realizations in the technical field.

Corporates and companies which have divulged products with Italian design, could present themselves as  candidates.

Loccioni Group has been selected thanks to its activity of “Research for Innovation” and APOTECA solution. Two projects dedicated to the development of studies, conversations and long run realizations intended to the improvement of life quality. The Group was considered as one of the most innovative enterprises in Europe.
The motivation given was: “In 40 years of activity Loccioni has transformed a craft company into an industrial enterprise spread all over the world. It is one of the best examples of companies in Marche region.
The simplicity, modesty, availability to learn are the essential rules of this company”.

The other two winners have been Roberto Gorza, innovation creator for different international brands (rollerblade, ski and pushchairs closable with just one hand) and James Dyson owner of Dyson Group and father of the famous vacuum cleaner without trash bag and of the ventilator without fans.

The next 14th and 15th June APOTECACommunity will take place at Loccioni humancare facilities. A wide range of topics will be put forward and discussed mainly on the base of the information gathered during the itinerant Community.

The meetings  held between January and April have been very useful, as proved by the adhesions obtained:
- 134  persons at meetings
of which:
- 98 clinicians from pharmacy service
- 30 clinicians from oncology and hematology department

Every clinician, met by Loccioni humancare team, gave precious input with suggestions and feedbacks about APOTECA software, disposables to use the System and communication to the patient. Loccioni humancare collected a considerable amount of general information about all the activities related to the daily use of APOTECAchemo as the clean up procedure.

Humancare team is already working on the information and elaborating all data in order to offer solid topics and ideas to develop together with the Community during the two days of June to at Loccioni facilities.

APOTECACommunity ON THE ROAD has been a worthy occasion for Loccioni team to verify the effectiveness of  those updates and developments carried out  on the base of the suggestions made  during   last June Community.
This itinerant Community has been helpful to consolidate the mutual esteem between Loccioni team and its partners, also showing  the sharing of  same targets, passion and interest.

For sure at next June Community the conversation group will be more close, motivated and coperative. Good outcome will be reached!

APOTECACommunity ON THE ROAD ended with the last step at IRST of Meldola on 13th April.

A very interesting meeting where numerous clinicians from the hospital pharmacy and oncologic department have been involved.
Dr. Carla Masini, responsible for APOTECAchemo, managed everything in order to obtain the participation of Cristina Cuni, referent of laboratory technicians, a considerable number of pharmacy staff and some representatives of the oncologic department .

The meeting has  been the right occasion to share the needs and problems of each professional figure involved in the oncologic patient therapy workflow.

Useful ideas for new solutions development  have been highlighted. The presence of IRST press attachés (in the persons of Valentina Ravaioli and Francesco Mazza) has been really appreciated. The aim is always to share the mutual knowhow in order to give value to their own activities.

Last 13th March, after the meeting at IEO of Milan, APOTECACommunity stopped at Bolognini Hospital of Seriate . Dr Angelo Barcella, director of the pharmacy, and Dr. Maria Teresa Benzoni welcomed Loccioni humancare team.

It has been an interesting meeting that gathered the leading professional people dealing with APOTECAchemo such as Dr. Davide Zenoni internal manager of APOTECA project and all the nurses.

All of them suggested a lot of topics and a big amount of development and implementation proposals have come out. Loccioni humancare team collected their helpful tips and is still working on them. A month later, some interesting solutions have already been developed.

Also in this step, APOTECACommunity acquired a considerable amount of information drugs validation, cleaning tools, pharmacy-oncologic department software integration and patient communication material improvement that will be re-organized and re-elaborated in the next months.

Last 12th March APOTECACommunity ON THE ROAD reached IEO of Milan.

Some activities in the laboratory, as the new drugs entry in the APOTECA system, have been carried out with Dr. Martina Milani, after which the Community met up at the end of the pharmacy meeting taking place on mondays.

The large and heterogeneous group also involved the director Dr. Emanuela Omodeo Salè, who contributed to the good outcome of the meeting. Each professional figure working in the pharmacy exposed his own point of view making people aware of their own needs.

Good suggestions on patient communication have been collected to realize another wider and complex project whose target is a better service and communication with the patient.

The 7th March, before leaving Rome, APOTECACommunity met pharmacy clinicians of Umberto I.
At the end of their working day referents of hospital pharmacy and of Loccioni humancare got together in the laboratory to do the point of situation about the updating installed and about the requests and needs of the contest.

The 6th March APOTECACommunity ON THE ROAD stopped off at San Camillo-Forlanini hospital. Loccioni humancare found a really competent Community with a lot of questions to ask.

With the new pharmacy organization Dr. Raffaela La Russa, responsible for APOTECA project, has announced the intention to automate at least the 80% of prescriptions arriving at the pharmacy.
It will be a reachable target thanks the good purposes of team who is working with APOTECA.
